During the development phase of the teeth and facial structures, the upper and lower jaws may grow at different rates resulting in an improper bite and incorrectly positioned jaw bones.
Orthodontic treatment may be performed to correct the discrepancy of the jaw bones while the individual is still developing. In this situation, a removable appliance was used to expand the upper jaw.
In this young individual, the upper jaw is not developing as rapidly as the lower jaw, resulting in a narrow upper jaw with a cross bite relationship of the teeth.
Using Orthodontic treatment to intervene during the developmental phase can correct problems which may have become difficult treatment situations later on.
